“Aloha! I'm Ellen, a nurturing and conscientious childcare provider living in beautiful Maui, Hawaii. I have over 20 years of experience directly caring for children and decades of teaching experience ranging from small children to adults. I have taught college level science classes, been an educator at an all-outdoor forest kindergarten, developed social and emotional intelligence curricula for young adults, and worked with special needs populations of all ages. My diverse background allows me to tailor my interaction style to expertly match the specific needs of each family. I bring a nurturing warmth to every child I care for, while gently supporting their natural curiosity and playful spirits. I am a native English speaker and have taught English abroad. I am semi-fluent in French, having lived in Senegal, West Africa as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer.”

Most recently in Maui I've been a dedicated homeschool teacher and nanny for a private family with 3 children under ten years of age (2026). Prior to that I served as an educator part-time for Wee Folk Forest Kindergarten (ages 2 1/2 to 6) and Living Arts School (ages 6-11) in Boulder, Colorado (2023-2025). I have a Master's Degree in environmental science and a B.A. Degree in natural sciences, social sciences and writing. I've had a long career in the environmental education field, including directing a learning landscape at a children's museum, doing solar education outreach at schools and festivals, and teaching young teens hands-on projects at a nature-based outdoor summer camp school. I enjoy following sparks of interest of each child under my care and incorporating relevant age-appropriate and fun hands-on learning opportunities throughout our time together. I am naturally patient, encouraging, and calm, which allows children to feel grounded and supported in my presence. I am skilled at planning activities, guiding young learners, fostering positive social and emotional development, and making children feel seen and supported as they playfully explore new places. Whether engaging their imagination indoors or discovering the magic of Hawaii's diverse natural world outside, I excel at creating a structured yet flexible environment tailored to each child's unique interests and needs.
